Karen Jean Thorsell

August 30, 1944 - September 20, 2024

Karen Jean Thorsell, lovingly known as Momma, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by her devoted family at St. Joseph Auxiliary Hospital.

Born in Lethbridge, AB, on August 30, 1944, Karen was the cherished daughter of David and Hazel McKeown. She is survived by her sister Kollene McKeown of Ajax, ON, and was predeceased by her brother Kenneth David McKeown in 1969.

Karen married Stanley Elden Thorsell, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter until Stan's passing in 2011. She is survived by her three children: Kellie Meier of Leduc, AB, Kim Wack of Sherwood Park, AB, and Kyle Thorsell of Cochrane, AB, as well as six beloved grandchildren who brought her immense joy.

Karen found great happiness in clogging with her friends across Alberta and Arizona, creating lasting memories. She and Stan cherished their time at their cottage at Pigeon Lake, AB, where family gatherings around the fire became treasured moments. Retiring in Kelowna, BC, along with Stanley and her parents, "Nana & Papa," also brought her joy as they shared meals, tended to the grapes, and enjoyed the view.

In 2015, Karen moved back to Sherwood Park to be closer to her children and grandchildren, embracing the role of a loving grandmother. Her generous spirit and welcoming nature made a profound impact on everyone around her.

In honoring her wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, the family encourages those who wish to pay their respects to donate to a favorite charity or plant a sunflower in her memory.

Momma, your love and kindness inspired us all to live with a greater purpose. You will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved you. May you rest in peace and find joy in reuniting with loved ones in Heaven.
