Scott Herbert Stoughton

May 30, 1954 - December 31, 2022

“Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,

Few heads with knowledge so inform’d;

If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;

If there’s none, he made the best of this.”

Our beloved Scotty died suddenly on New Year’s Eve…we take comfort in knowing he was going to bring in the New Year with Mom, Dad and Wayne.

Scott’s death leaves behind his siblings, including his sisters Kristen Timmins (Douglas), Kandis Stoughton (Mike Comeau), Nancy Stoughton (Peter Aung Thin) and Carole Walter (Edward), and his brothers Howard Stoughton (Elane) and Blake Stoughton, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime “buddies” in Edmonton. Scott was pre-deceased by his parents, Howard and Donna Stoughton, and his younger brother, Wayne.

Scotty was born in Bathurst, NB and eventually moved with his family to Valleyfield, QC. He attended Chateauguay Valley Regional High School in Ormstown, where he loved performing in the school’s musical productions. Following high school, Scott relocated to Sherbrooke, QC and graduated from Bishop’s University with a degree in Business Administration. After graduating, Scotty made his way to Alberta, settling in Edmonton, a city he grew to love.

Despite some life challenges, Scotty seemed to face each day with a thumbs-up approach – his easygoing attitude, generosity, gentle spirit and ineffable outlook would make us smile.

Scotty will be remembered for his love of sports, including his unbridled passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Expos. And, back in the day, you would often find him skating at the Parc Salaberry-de-Valleyfield rink. He inherited his love of books from Dad and had a voracious appetite for reading. And, if you were lucky enough to be his partner on the dance floor, you were in good hands – Scott could trip the light fantastic!!

Scotty enjoyed spending time with his Edmonton friends, raising a glass or two, but one of his greatest joys was time spent with family, whether enjoying milestone birthday celebrations or his annual visit to the family home in Valleyfield for Christmas.

If we were to ask Scott if he’ll “rest in peace”, we know his answer would be “you bet!”.

Godspeed, brother, and know that, this year, we will cheer on your Maple Leafs.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
