Carey Dawn Babych

June 23, 1978 to July 24, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carey Dawn Babych (46) on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024. Carey’s love and spirit live on in her three beloved children: Daiton, Devon, and Taiya. She is also survived by her sister, Deanne (Lance) Reibin & Stefanie (Fabian) Roder; her four nephews, Jesse, Xander (Noelle), Tiegen & Aubrey; her cherished great-niece, Edith; her devoted parents, Gerhard and Chris Formella; and an extended network of family and friends who were deeply touched by her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Carey was raised from a baby in arms to attend church and to know the Lord in a deeply and personal way. As a young child, she accepted Jesus into her heart and life.

Carey also developed a deep connection to the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. She found peace in their majesty and joy in exploring them, especially during hikes with her children. Her adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors were evident in everything she did, and she was known for her remarkable athleticism—often outpacing friends and family with her boundless energy and enthusiasm. Not only did Carey love the mountains and hiking, but she always loved animals from an early age. She cared for the pets in her home and taught her children to love, respect and care for them. Carey’s dedication to others was evident in her professional life as well. She became a Registered Nurse, and over the course of 20 years, she dedicated herself to the well-being of her patients, earning the admiration and gratitude of all who worked with her.

Carey also shared her knowledge and experience with future nurses as a beloved instructor at Nor Quest College. Her impact was profound, and in recognition of her exceptional contributions, the staff at Nor Quest College held a memorial service for Carey in July 2024, lowering the flag to half-mast as a tribute to her legacy.

A devoted and loving mother, Carey poured her heart into raising her children, providing them with countless cherished memories and a foundation of love that will endure.

Carey’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at Sherwood Park Alliance Church on June 19th, 2025 at 11:00 am, at 1011 Cloverbar Road, Sherwood Park, where we will celebrate her life and the lasting impact she had on all who knew her. A luncheon will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers please send donations to:
