Gordon Bossenberry

1930-2024

Gordon Charles Bossenberry, age 93, of Sherwood Park, Alberta passed away peacefully January 23, 2024 at the Capital Care Strathcona Long Term Care facility.

Gordon was born to Austin and Alice (Skinner) Bossenberry on September 18, 1930 in Calgary, Alberta. Gordon is survived by the love of his life, his wife Lila of 61 years; their son Aaron and daughter-in-law Jen; grandson Logan and step-grandson Brody. He is predeceased by his brothers, Don and Gill; sister Maxine (Dalgetty); and his parents Austin and Alice.

Gordon was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. After graduating high school, his education led him to a career in Alberta Forestry Services. He held different positions within forestry services at several different Alberta locations; the most interesting and challenging being a District Ranger in an isolated Station in Embarrass Portage, Northern Alberta. Gordon loved to share many entertaining stories of his time spent working in forestry. He had a passion for the outdoors, for nature and wildlife, making forestry a most rewarding career.

Gordon met his love, Lila (Schapf) in 1957. With the expected arrival of their son, Gordon and Lila relocated to Edmonton. After working for a short while in the forestry office in Edmonton, Gordon left the industry and became a successful travelling salesman. After a brief relocation to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Gordon and Lila settled back in Edmonton to raise their son, Aaron.

Gordon had a passion for sports - he himself was a goalie in hockey and a catcher in baseball. Aaron followed his father’s footsteps and was in many sports; but, they both lived and breathed hockey. This led Gordon to years of volunteer work with Alberta Minor Hockey. He received a Centurion Award in 2007 from Hockey Alberta for his 52 years of volunteer and dedication to Alberta Minor Hockey.

At Gordon’s request, no funeral service will be held. He has wished to be cremated and have his ashes spread at the summit of the Elbow River near Bragg Creek, Alberta. Gordon has ensured this possible and has obtained written permission from the Alberta Government. Aaron, along with daughter-in-law Jen will carry out his wishes in Spring.

A special thank you to the entire team at Capital Care Strathcona for the exceptional care and support. The family would also like to thank Brandy with Pine Box Funerals for the amazing service.
