Cindy Lee Martin

August 25, 1959 - December 20, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cindy Lee Martin at the age of 63 on December 20. Cindy was a beloved wife; a devoted mother, daughter, and sister; and a passionate teacher. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

The brightest sparkle in Cindy’s eye came from her family. Cindy married the love of her life Murray Cooper and they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this past year. They were blessed with 2 wonderful boys, Matthew and Christopher. Cindy was thrilled to celebrate the engagement of Matthew to Jessica last year in Maui, and glowed at their engagement party in September.

Cindy was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt who is survived by her mother Joyce (Jack), sister Trudy (Joe), and nephews, Derek (Chelsea) and Marc; and her loving Cooper family of many siblings, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her dad, Joe Martin and her mother-in-law, Jean Cooper.

With a career spanning 37 years, she dedicated her life to inspiring children. She was primarily a kindergarten teacher at Brentwood School in Sherwood Park, which she described as “living the dream”. She valued her relationships with her colleagues and the parents of her students, and she cherished the moments of laughter and joy that the children brought into her life. She will be remembered as a dedicated and compassionate educator who meaningfully touched the lives of her students and their families.

Cindy was a life-long learner. She loved to travel and enjoyed experiencing new cultures, the beauty of Canada and other countries. She loved researching a new destination as part of the excitement of her travel experience. She led family and friends on numerous adventures around the world. In her retirement, Cindy was very active, learning how to cross-country ski, play pickleball, and she took golf lessons so she could join a ladies league.

Cindy was an active volunteer with the Brookview Community League, where she loved giving back to her community. She always appreciated the efforts of other volunteers, and giving back was her way to show her gratitude.

Long-lasting friendships were important to Cindy. She loved the deep connections she had with her family, her cousins, her school and university friends, and her wonderful group of neighbors. She always looked for opportunities to add to her circle of friends, and she will be remembered as loving and supportive to many.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Grey Nuns Community Hospital, Unit 43 for their compassionate care and in particular to Lee Andrus of the Cross Cancer Institute, for her incredible support over the past 2 years.

A Celebration of Cindy’s Life will be held in the Spring, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to the Edmonton Public Library, The Edmonton Food Bank or The Grey Nuns Community Hospital, Unit 43, Palliative Care in Cindy’s memory.
